Ós — The Journal Submission guidelines

Submissions are now closed

Ós — The Journal is open to all writers and artists who have a connection to Iceland. There is no theme and we accept (m)any literary and artistic formats: prose, poetry, visual and experimental poems, translations, cartoons, creative nonfiction, etc. We will consider work in any language.

  • Submissions are read blind and should not contain the author’s name.

  • Submissions are limited to four A4 pages, using Arial or Helvetica font, size 11.

  • All manuscripts should be sent as .doc or .docx files. File names should mention the language(s) included in the work. An extra PDF file will be necessary if the piece needs a special layout.

  • All illustrations and images should be submitted as scanned or digital files in high-resolution (300dpi). They should be in the horizontal or vertical format and be in RGB or grayscale. Selected works will be printed in black and white, but a color version of your work may be available via QR code.

  • Audio works considered and, if accepted, will be made available via a printed QR code in the journal.

  • Simultaneous submissions allowed.

  • Previously published work must be free of copyright restrictions.

  • You may submit translations, but it is your responsibility to secure rights to the translation before it is submitted.

  • Proofread before submitting as we cannot guarantee a chance to proofread before publication.

We reserve the right to decline submissions which we consider offensive or have not complied with the submission guidelines.

Submit by email to ospressan@gmail.com. Please also include a bio of no more than 50 words written in the third person, along with a few words on how you’re connected to Iceland.

If your work features in our journal, you will receive two complimentary copies.

We encourage you to read previous issues of Ós — The Journal before submitting.

Copies can be found at Penninn Eymundsson bookstores in downtown Reykjavík, Akureyri, Ísafjörður and Þingeyri and at Bóksala Stúdenta in Reykjavík. You can also buy a copy here.
